Cook Time
30 minutes
Ingredients
-
¼ cup Carrots - Diced
- ½ cup water at 200ºF
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 large ripe banana, mashed
-
1 Tbsp Parsley
-
1 Tbsp Ginger - Ground
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- special equipment (optional): plastic wrap
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325ºF. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside.
- In a small bowl combine carrots and hot water to rehydrate; set aside for 10 minutes.
- Mix Dough. Add the rehydrated carrots (with any residual liquid) and the remaining ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer, fork, or your hands, combine until fully incorporated. If necessary, add just enough water to achieve a consistency where the dough holds its shape without being crumbly or sticky.
Roll & Cut Dough. Dust the work surface with flour* and roll dough to approximately ¼-inch thick. Cut out desired shapes using a cookie cutter, pizza cutter, or knife. Arrange pieces evenly on the parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake for 30 minutes; turn oven off and leave treats to cool in the oven overnight.
Yields: 28 to 30 (3-inch) bones. Recipe can be easily scaled for larger quantities.
Recipe Note
No-Mess Pro Tip: Instead of flouring the work surface, place a large piece of plastic wrap flat on the surface (about 24 inches). Transfer the dough to the center of the piece. Drape a second piece of plastic wrap (same size) over the dough, with the corners aligned in the same general position as the first. Working on top of the plastic wrap, roll out the dough to approximately ¼-inch thick, staying within the dimensions of the plastic wrap. Remove top piece of plastic wrap and proceed with cutting the dough.
